In 30 years of civil rights service many haven’t gone through the transformation that the Reverend Al Sharpton has.
From a fire-mouthed civil rights leader who appeared on television shows fighting other guests; to leading protests in New York City that almost led to race wars; to now backing President Obama on several issues and debating with many prominent African-American scholars, the founder of the National Action Network, Sharpton is proof that people “can change.”
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Sharpton spoke about the Tawanna Brawley case, his relationship with President Obama, black unemployment, and how he is now a “refined agitator.”
“I think that America and Al Sharpton has transformed. I think it’s a different country and I think that therefore I’ve become a different person in that context,” Sharpton told correspondent Lesley Stahl.
