92 Percent Of Bronx “Stop And Frisk” Victims, Black Or Latino

 

The New York  Police Department’s “Stop and Frisk” policy is under fire in the wake of a controversy involving a Staten Island officer caught on tape bragging about falsely arresting a Black man after a stop.

Calls for a federal investigation have ensued as the department’s figures detail a policy that predominantly focuses on Black and Hispanic males.

According to the latest figures, more than 90 percent of those stopped in the Bronx were Black or Hispanic males.

The NYPD says the practice is backed by a state criminal procedure law – allowing an officer to stop a person reasonably believed to have committed or about to commit a crime.
