Rest In Peace: Funk Musician Jimmy Castor Dead At 64

Jimmy Castor, saxophonist and leader of the seminal funk/disco group Jimmy Castor Bunch, passed away today, according to Prefix Mag.

The legendary saxophonist passed away at 2:30 p.m. at the age of 64 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The causes of his death are currently unknown.

The funk musician got his start with debut 1972 song, “Troglodyte (Cave Man).” Till this day Castor’s music is sampled by dozens of hip-hop artists including Eric B. and Rakim, N.W.A., Kanye West and others.

His song “It’s Just Begun” also became a staple break of ’70s and ’80s b-boy scene, also appearing as the backing track for the Rock Steady Crew in the film “Flashdance“.
