11:30PM, IRC Halloween Movie Night: Night of the Living Dead

It draws us into its world gradually; content to establish a merely spooky atmosphere before leading us through a horrifically logical progression that we hardly could have anticipated. The story is simple: Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and hunger for human flesh. We follow a group holed up in small farmhouses who are trying to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead. Night of the Living Dead establishes savagery as a necessary condition of life. Marked by fatality and a grim humor, the film gnaws through to the bone, and then proceeds on to the marrow.

Hendrick's Beer of the Week

ON DRAUGHT

Coney Island Freaktoberfest

Brooklyn, New York   8oz     6.66%abv     $6

"Auburn-blood red color with pink foam. Aroma of candy corn and caramel. Malty marzen flavor with a grapefruit juice finish. Definitely stands out as one of the more original and enjoyable annual Octoberfest offerings."

Southern Tier Imperial Pumking

Lakewood, New York   8oz     8.6%abv    $6

"It's back! Full bodied with bold taste, a spicy aroma and a deep copper color. Just slightly hoppy. Best of the pumpkin beers out there by far and perhaps altogether our favorite seasonal. Superb."

Founder's Breakfast Stout

Grand Rapids, Michigan      8oz   8.3%abv   $6

"Pours pitch black with very faint fizz. Smells phenomenal: strong chocolate and coffee notes pour out of the glass. Taste follows the nose perfectly, strong chocolate, both bitter and sweet, and coffee flavors abound from this spectacular brew. Full-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture and no mouth-carbonation. A perfect 100 on ratebeer."

Bronx Brewery Rye Pale Ale

Bronx, New York   16oz     6.3%abv     $7

"Lots of spicy rye character along with some peppery aroma. A bright lemony citrus hop aroma and flavor along with some nice spiciness. A little bit of dark berry fruitiness and a fairly light resinous bitterness. It's pretty lovely stuff."

BY THE BOTTLE

Oskar Blues G'Knight (Gordon)

Lyons, Colorado   16oz   8.7abv     $10 (can)

"Gordon is a dry-hopped hybrid strong ale somewhere between a Double IPA and and Imperial Amber Ale (IAA). Brewed in tribute to the late Gordon Knight, Gordon is brewed with massive amounts of American hops".
